ABOUT THE KIT 1901/09
The onset of the 1901-02 season saw the introduction of new red shirt. Consisting
of ribbed material, the collar was mandarin with a single button-through placket, through
which a lace could be worn. The shorts were, white “baggies” (know as knickerbockers)
and the socks were red (this description home shirt of the season 1907-08 and 1908-09).
The away strip was predominantly white with a red collar and shoulder area. The
collar was mandarin with lace and red cuffs with pure white baggie shorts, and black
socks.
Incidentally by the time of the 1907-08 season, black socks were used for both the
home and away kits and incorporated two white bands across the top. ("Tops of The
Kops" Peter Crilly)
In 1891 the Football League required member clubs to register
their colours for the first time and no two teams were allowed to wear similar shirts. The
following year, when the Second Division was formed this rule was relaxed but home teams
were now required to have a spare set of white shirts, which could be used if colours
clashed. (historicalkits.co.uk, David Moor)

Players, and later clubs,
generally bought their playing kit from local sports outfitters. The kits were often
locally made by the outfitters or small garment manufacturers. Burta, founded in 1879,
were the first mass manufacturer of football kits, and remained so until Humphrey Brothers
Clothing were formed in 1920 in Wilmslow, Cheshire. In 1924 they became Umbro. Although
these two Companies came to dominate the market they relied upon distributors and the
local sports outfitters rather than supplying clubs direct.
Now can write, what with season 1910-11, Liverpool FC to buys
equipment for club in Jack Sharp sport shop. |

used in season 1904-05.
Now difficult write which socks played Liverpool players when used away shirt, red

Until recently,
I thought it was Richard Morris when he played for Liverpool (1902-05), but was probably
mistaken. Here Richard Morris in a shirt, when he played for Grimsby Town (1906-07). But
now I think what Liverpool was playing in this style away shirt in 1900-06. This s

I think what in life all was other. Now I have some photos (below) with in away
match Division One versus Woolwich Arsenal (02.09.1905), at Manor Ground, Liverpool played
in away shirt. Which shirt home or away Liverpool played in season 1901-02, in matches
versus Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, I not know now. May be rules Football League
also not worker in matches with this team. Step by step we know more of history Liverpool
FC and will small white holes.

What you know, may be before season 1901-02 Liverpool goalkeepers now and other
goalkeepers in Great Britain not have shirt, they used shirts field players. And different
between goalkeeper and field players was only in one, goalkeepers in a match put on a cap
a head, that's all difference.
Why I written "may be before season
1901-02", as how with this season have photos with match when on Liverpool goalkeeper
Bill Perkins dressin goalkeeper shirt (sweater). Was used goalkeeper shirt (sweater) in
season 1900-1, I not know.
In seasons 1904-05 and 1905-06,
Liverpool goalkeepers again used shirts field players, as now I think.
Now difficult write which socks played Liverpool players when used goalkeeper
