Full season 1964-65 Liverpool played in red
shirt with white shorts and red-white socks. Only in European Cup matches (except for
qualifier rounds 17.08.1964 & 14.09.1964) Liverpool used home shirt with red short and
red socks. In first this was in home European Cup match versus Anderlecht (Belgium,
25.11.1964 ledt black-white photos Ian St John ). Also in netral FA Cup match versus
Chelsea (27.03.1965), Liverpool used home kits - all red.
How born Liverpool all red kit
Liverpool wear all red for the first time. According to Ian St John Shankly
"thought the colour scheme would carry psychological impact — red for danger, red
for power. He came into the dressing room one day and threw a pair of red shorts to Ronnie
Yeats. 'Get into those shorts and let’s see how you look,' he said. 'Christ, Ronnie, you
look awesome, terrifying. You look 7ft tall.' 'Why not go the whole hog, boss?' I
suggested. 'Why not wear red socks? Let’s go out all in red.' Shankly approved and an
iconic kit was born." |
In Cup Winners' Cup Final (05.05.1966) match was used simple home shirt (photo
in top left page, Ron Yeats H 1.1), in shirt not was special embroidery to this match.

How to distinguish a shirt of a season 1962-63, from a shirt of a season 1967-68 or
other seasons, very difficultly. Most likely, it is distinctions in design of a label of
firm of manufacturer Umbro under a collar. But now not as more shirts used in seasons
1962-68 in collections.
Full list when Liverpool players used home kits will soon.
Note that Liverpool FC did not release any replicas shirts
prior to season 1978-1979.
