1997-98
Home goalkeepers shirt
Manufacturer: Reebok (made in United Kingdom)
Club sponsor: Carlsberg
Years worn: 1997
In this home goalkeeper shirt (Probably... logo Liverpool first played in away
Friendly match versus Norway XI, 3-1., 31.07.1997, at Ullevaal Stadion, Norway.
Liverpool player shirt comes without a sponsor logo Carlsberg on the crest position
owing to ban of beer sponsoring in countries like Norway and France.
Unlike usual alcoholic bans in France and Norway, Carlsberg tried to breakthrough
the advertising restrictions instead of dropping out the logo completely. I don't know
about the significance of commercial returns or promotion of the lager in Norway,
Carlsberg made use of the loophole in regulations and adopted "Probably..." in
place of "Carlsberg"!
Anyway, serious collectors should know the ultra-rarity of this shirt. It is
estimated that around 15-20 shirts of this special sponsor were ever manufactured. One of
these shirts is exhibited in Anfield Museum. One shirt in a collection Michael Yip.
Was used a special one-off match rubber embossed in capital
letters "Probably..." on the chest.

without Carlsberg logo. Else for last tine I think what this photo to do with Friendly
match Norway XI-Liverpool (31.07.1996). But 7 October 2013 Michael Yip send me photo with
Friendly match 1996 year, thanks Michael for photo. On photo with Friendly match Norway
XI-Liverpool (31.07.1996) can to see what Liverpool players dress in shirt with Carlsberg
logo, as what on cover with Robbie Fowler photo was delete Carlsberg logo, this also of
alcoholic bans in Norway.
Interesting other, 6 March 1997, in away match Cup Winners Cup versus Brann
(Norway) Liverpool used away shirt without Carlsberg logo. |
The linkage between "Carlsberg" and
"Probably" was not too implicit to catch. Liverpool did have promotional events
like the one shown upon renewal of contracts.
