In a season 1936-37 the design away shirt has changed. Liverpool used away shirt
seventeen seasons, 1936-37 to 1952-53 (different in some details & time of use away
shirt is probably inexact).

Now know, what away shirt for FA Cup Final was on factory
Umbro. Know this what in seasons 1948-49 & 1949-50. Liverpool used home and away kits
made on factory Umbro, I not know, but I hope what this as.
My pages about history of Liverpool shirts in 40th years,
most likely, contain mistakes in dating use of a home kits. Why it is difficult, not so it
is a lot of photos (at me) these years and very little where there is a date when the
photo is made. It concerns also a photo of a Liverpool team.

Full list when Liverpool players used away kits will soon.
Interesting fact. In home FA Cup match between
Liverpool and Exeter City (28.01.1950), teams Liverpool and Exeter City have red shirts,
but in Liverpool matchday programme write what team Liverpool will played in white shirt,
away. Team Exeter City will played in blue shirt, away. Now I to find this photo (below). This rule for FA Cup matches, if club have identical colors. Before
I think what rule work in FA Cup Semi-Final or Final matches.
Liverpool's
Billy Liddell (right) and Exeter's Raymond Goddard
Rule where the colours of the two competing clubs are
similar, both clubs must change unless alternative arrangements are mutually agreed by the
competing clubs. For Liverpool and other team was used in matches:
Liverpool-Accrington Stanley, FA Cup 3rd Round, 07.01.1956.
Liverpool-Arsenal, FA Cup Final, 29.04.1950.
Liverpool-Manchester United FA Cup Semi-Final, 31.03.1979.
Liverpool-Manchester United FA Cup Semi-Final Replay, 04.04.1979.
Only in season 1979-80, Liverpool played three FA Cup Semi-Final matches versus
Arsenal, teams by turns used the home and away kits.
This rule in other matches FA Cup Final or Semi-Final, work,
as and not work, how in match FA Cup Final Liverpool-Arsenal, 08.05.1971.

nteresting fact. One more from
riddles of the history Liverpool F C kits. In away Division
One match between Portsmouth and Liverpool (22.04.1950). Liverpool played in away kits.
Usually in matches versus Portsmouth, Liverpool played in red shirts, but if to see on
photo, Liverpool players (Laurie Hughes & Ray Lambert) in away (white) shirts. In my
head only one idea. May be in this match made film, as how in season 1949-50 Portsmouth
win Division One, and on black-white films all players will in dark shirts.
Portsmouth after this match need play two away matches versus Arsenal and Aston
villa.
Course my version may be not good.

This label with Liverpool home shirt which can made and used in season
1937-37 to 1939-40. I not can correctly to define what this lmanufacturer label Bukta or
Umbro. as how this label distributor shop Jack Sharp Ltd SPORTS DEPORT LIVERPOOL. Some
below have else other label BDA "Rigmel" SHRUNK, which this label I not know,
wil search. |
Players, and later clubs, generally bought their playing
kit from local sports outfitters. The kits were often locally made by the outfitters or
small garment manufacturers. Bukta, founded in 1879, were the first mass manufacturer of
football kits, and remained so until Humphrey Brothers Clothing were formed in 1920 in
Wilmslow, Cheshire. In 1924 they became Umbro. Although these two Companies came to
dominate the market they relied upon distributors and the local sports outfitters rather
than supplying clubs direct.
