1949-50
Away players shirt
Manufacturer: Umbro
Years worn: 1950
In this away shirt (Liverbird) Liverpool in played in neutral FA Cup Final match
versus Arsenal, 0-2, 29.04.1950, at Wembley.
For last time I think what embroidery Liverbird on
Liverpool shirt was used in FA Cup Final match versus Arsenal (29.04.1950). But now I know
what first this was in away Division One match versus Portsmouth, 22 April 1950, at
Fratton Park, on away shirt. In other matches season 1949-50, Liverpool used shirt without
Liverbird on board. Again Liverbird on board ion Liverpool shirt was in season 1953-54 on
away shirts.
Was used a special one-off match embroidery of the
shirt.
12 Febryary 2019, on page The National Football
Collection publishen some photos of Willie Fagan's collection.
Included in the items is this absolute beauty - his 1950 FACup final no.10 shirt,
complete with socks (which wouldn't have been from the final, but were certainly worn
during his time with the club)!
After this, George
Chilvers send some interesting photos of news paper Liverpool Echo, when we only now
know what in FA Cup Final 1950 match, Liverpool played in blue and white socks, nor red
and white, how we think before
Many thanks George Chilvers for work!!!
SWITCH IN STOCKINGS
There was also a change in Liverpool colours. Originally it had been intended that
the club should play in the Cup Final next week with their usual red and white stockings,
but yesterday the F.A. intimated that they must change this, as, where colours clash in
the final, both clubs must play in completely new rig-outs.
Liverpool accordingly chose blue and white stockings and made a hurried purchase of
these this morning at a Portsmouth outfitters the team turning out in the identical outfit
that they will wear at Wembley next week. (Liverpool Echo, Saturday 22 April 1950)

IInteresting fact. In home FA
Cup match between Liverpool and Exeter City (28.01.1950) , teams Liverpool and Exeter City
have red shirts, but in Liverpool matchday programme write what team Liverpool will played
in white shirt, away. Team Exeter City will played in blue shirt, away. Played teams how
write in matchday programme I not know. This rule for FA Cup matches, if club have
identical colors. Before I think what rule work in FA Cup Semi-Final or Final
matches.
Rule where the colours of the two competing clubs are
similar, both clubs must change unless alternative arrangements are mutually agreed by the
competing clubs. For Liverpool and other team was used in matches:
Liverpool-Arsenal, FA Cup Final, 29.04.1950.
Liverpool-Manchester United FA Cup Semi-Final, 31.03.1979.
Liverpool-Manchester United FA Cup Semi-Final Replay, 04.04.1979.
Only in season 1979-80, Liverpool played three FA Cup Semi-Final matches versus
Arsenal, teams by turns used the home and away kits.
This rule in other matches FA Cup Final or Semi-Final, work,
as and not work, how in match FA Cup Final Liverpool-Arsenal, 08.05.1971.
IInteresting fact. One more from riddles of the history
Liverpool FC kits. In away Division One match between
Portsmouth and Liverpool (22.04.1950). Liverpool played in away kits. Usually in matches
versus Portsmouth, Liverpool played in red shirts, but if to see on photo, Liverpool
players (Laurie Hughes & Ray Lambert) in away (white) shirts. In my head only one
idea. May be in this match made film, as how in season 1949-50 Portsmouth win Division
One, and on black-white films all players will in dark shirts.Else on photo outside-left
Jack Froggart depicted scoring the goal, Peter Hasrris (Portsmouth) and Liverpool
goalkeeper Roy Minshull.
Portsmouth after this match need play two away matches versus Arsenal and Aston
villa.
Course my version may be not good.
One detail, Portsmout team played in red socks, Liverpool team in blue-white
socks. If you have read a note above, what in Portsmouth, Liverpool has bought blue-white
socks for the FA Cup Final match.
One main detail, as how photo not
good, in this match on Liverpool FC shirts was Liverbird!
If who has information on it, shall be glad. Write to me contact us. |
