In a season 1982-83 the design home shirt has changed. Liverpool used home shirt
three seasons, 1982-83, 1983-84 & 1984-85 (different in some details). Liverpool used
home shirt how in all home, as and in more away matches. In season 1984-85, Liverpool used
with home shirt different kits:
Home shorts and home socks
Second away shorts and away socks
H 1.0 - Home shirt (without CROWN PAINTS logo) with
home shorts & home socks.
H 1.1 - Home shirt (CROWN PAINTS logo one lines) with
home shorts & home socks.

Liverpool used home shirt (CROWN PAINTS logo one lines) two seasons, 1983-84 &
1984-85.
In Charity Shield (18.08.1984) match was used simple home shirt (photo in top left
page, Sammy Lee H 1.3), in shirt not was special embroidery to this match. The special
embroidery as was absent in matches Charity Shield 1971, 1974, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1983,
1984, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992 & 1994. Liverpool also played in 60's Charity
Shield matches, but and this matches used simple shirt, without special embroidery.
In European Super Cup (16.01.1985) match was used simple home goalkeeper shirt
(photo in top left page, Bruce Grobbelaar H G 1.4), in shirt not was special embroidery to
this match. The special embroidery as was absent in matches European Super Cup 1977, 1978
& 1985.
All season Liverpool used shirt kit manufacturer Umbro, but
last match season 1984-85, 29.05.1985, was used kit manufacturer Adidas. In what the
reason of such act I at present do not know, can, who has the information on it, write to
me in guestbook or on the e-mail.

The shirt shown in image 1 is the standard home shirt with no
sponsor's logo at all, This shirt was worn when in certain televised and European games
from the first season of 1982-83 including the Milk Cup, FA Cup etc, However it was used
throughout the shirts 3 year life when for the reasons stated above as well as different
countries laws on advertising by sportsmen did not allow them to wear a sponsored shirt.
During the 1983/84 season the FA somewhat relented to club pressure when it was
decided that clubs could display sponsors logos on the front of their shirts in certain
televised games as well as English competitions, However the size of the sponsors logo
could not be more than 7cm in height, This presented a problem to Liverpool whose sponsors
logo seen in image 2 was around 10cm, To overcome this obstacle Liverpool decided to order
a new stock of shirts from Umbro with a new smaller Crown Paints logo, This is seen in
image 3 and as can be seen is quite a bit smaller than the original logo.
This was then worn during some of the early part of the 1983-84 season, When it was
then decided by Crown Paints and Liverpool that the logo on the front of the shirts was so
small it just could not be seen on TV or by the fans, And the words could not be read by
anyone watching, Crown Paints were worried they were not getting the best from the deal,
To overcome this new obstacle the only choice left open to Liverpool and Crown Paints was
to redesign their logo once more, One way around this was to write 'Crown Paints' across
one line of the shirt instead of two, Thus the letters could be a lot taller and the
company name could then be read much easier by anyone at home watching TV.
However as Liverpool had just taken delivery quite recently of a whole new stock of
shirts with the small logo seen in image 3 there was not the funds to order and produce a
complete new stock of shirts once more that season, To get around this the logo was
printed onto a thin piece of similar red cloth, This was then stitched onto the front of
the plain type of shirt seen in image 1, The end result was the classic one line Crown
Paints shirt seen here in image 4. It was first seen in the winter of 1983 and was used up
until the shirt was changed in the summer of 1985. (The text is taken with
nonexistent already a site.)
May be with 12 December 1983, Liverpool in first played in home shirt new design
Crown Paints logo, logo in one line.
|
|
|
The shirt shown here is a number 9 Ian Rush players issue shirt from this era, This
can be seen by the fully embroidered badges shown below, As you can see this issue of
shirt has the Crown Paints logo on one line as opposed to two which can be seen top. As
you can also see the way in which the Crown Paints logos are attached to the Liverpool
shirts was extremely crude, It was literally another piece of material stitched right
across the front of the shirt.
Interesting fact. Home player shirt (without CROWN
PAINTS logo) not as more in open collection (collection which can to see in Internet). Why
as it is not enough. I think, what on more clear home shirt late was made CROWN PAINTS
logo different variants. I now not have information, what CROWN PAINTS logo was made
in Umbro factory.
This last season deal with kit manufacturer Umbro, with end season 1984-85,
Liverpool will played in kit manufacturer Adidas. Liverpool played in kits Umbro may be
with 1934 to 1985.
In 1985 Liverpool changed their kit manufacturer after a long association with
Umbro may be with 1934 to 1985. Was signed 3 years deal with kit manufacturer Adidas.
How to distinguish a home shirt of a season 1982-83, from a shirt of a
seasons 1983-84 & 1984-85, very difficultly, only for different variants CROWN PAINTS
logo.

Interesting fact: For seasons
1985-86 & 1986-87 was made 6 (as I now know) different for design and color goalkeeper
shirts, green, yellow, white, blue and black-green.
In season 1985-86, Liverpool starter in shirt Crown Paints on
two lines, but after New Year, the design Crown Paints logo was change, written on one
line. Why was change sponsor logo, I not know (may be with problems with TV).
In season 1986-87, Liverpool again starter in shirt CROWN
PAINTS on two lines. Written on two lines so it became larger (and easier to see on a TV
screen), The shirt badges upon the replica shirts are an embossed material where as they
would have been fully stitched upon the players issue shirts, a trend that has been seen
through the majority of Liverpool shirt since.
In season 1984-85, Liverpool used second home shirt with special embroidery, this
