Home players shirt
Manufacturer: Umbro
Years worn: 1955-62
In this design home shirt (V-neck collar with Liverbird) Liverpool may be first
played (how second home shirt) in away Division Second match versus Leeds United, 2-0,
19.11.1955, at Elland Road.
In a season 1955-56 the design home shirt has changed. Liverpool used home shirt
eight seasons, 1955-56 to 1962-63 (time of use shirt is probably inexact). Only in seasons
1955-56 to 1957-58, this shirt was used how home shirt. Liverpool used second home shirt
how in more home, as and in more away matches. In season 1962-63 also used second home
shirt (round collar).

* * - Unknown me now which kits used in this matches.
Difficult say why with start season 1962-63, Liverpool not
used new style home shirt with ring collar.
For all eight seasons, 1955-56 to 1962-63 this shirt (V-neck
collar with Liverbird) course can made of different fabrics, on thickness and color. Also
can to see what with season 1960-61 (right image) oval with embroidered Liverbird was it
is sewn some down what on Liverpool shirt (V-neck collar with Liverbird) with seasons

About second home shirt (ring collar) read in cection
"Second home kits, Main Variant (League rimg collar).
Course this not 100% right information, It is necessary to
check in addition still, but how I now think shirt with V-neck collar and long sleeve,
Liverpool start use only with season 1961-62. How in cold weather in season"s 1958-59

Dificult say, of one fabric manafactured shirts with short
and long sleeve. One can say, the shirts is manufactured of thick cotton fabric. May be
shirt with short sleeve of lightweight cotton interlock. May be shirt with long sleeve of
heavyweight cotton interlock.

Second home players shirt
Manufacturer: Umbro
Years worn: 1962-68
In this design second home shirt (round collar) Liverpool may be first played in
away Division One match versus West Bromwich Albion, 0-1, 27.10.1962, at The Hawthorns.
In a autumn season 1962-63 the design second home shirt has changed. Liverpool used
second home shirt six seasons, 1962-63 to 1967-68. In seasons 1963-64 to 1967-68, this
shirt was used how home shirt. Liverpool used second home shirt how in more home, as and

1962-63, Liverpool used second home shirt with short and long sleeve.
S H 1.0 - Second home shirt with home shorts &

Difficult say why with start season 1962-63, Liverpool not
used new style home shirt with ring collar.
Why this shirt from my site have name "Second
home player shirt", only for classification of the kits. This shirts cardinally
different in design with"Home player shirt".
Of photos which I have, basic second home shirt in season
1962-63, was shirt with long sleeve. Not think what this shirt will in future on one of
collections. Liverpool used shirt with round color and short sleeve may be only in two
seasons, 1963-64 to 1964-65.

This shirts of hotel "Hotel Tie". How write in
auction this shirt played Roger Hunt, home shirt № 8 with unknown me now season, this
shirt can made in 1962-65 years. the main difference of this shirt from shirts made in
1965-68, is design of a label which is under a collar (look below). Why I think, that
shirts with a label on the right steel is produced in 1965, the answer is simple, on a
shirt for FA Cup Final 1965 with a special embroidery for this match it is possible to see
right label Umbro. But this hour is the information, probably, and then there will be
additions.

1965. Label "6" with Liverpool shirt which used in season 1967-68, but may be
may be before.

Interesting fact. In left Roger Hunt home
shirt № 8, this shirt was sold on auction Sotheby (11.09.2003) for J744. If to see
better, can to see what have one riddle, why on embroidered club emblem (Liverbird
embroidered on an oval) without abbreviation (L.F.C.). What this mistake on shirt or shirt
was used in Friendly match when played players different clubs (Everton).
For Charity Shield mattches versus Southampton (14.08.1976(
and versus Manchester United (13.08.1977), was made shirt with a special one-off match
embroidery, but Liverbird embroidered without abbreviation (L.F.C.). |
How to distinguish a shirt of a season 1962-63, from a shirt of a season 1967-68,
very difficultly. Most likely, it is distinctions in design of a label of firm of
manufacturer Umbro under a collar. But now not as more shirts used in seasons 1962-68 in

"Historicalkits.co.uk" Dave Moor, has assumed, that shirts with a short sleeve,
were used in good weather, and with a long sleeve, in cold. The logic in it is, but may be
so business in other.
My pages about history of Liverpool shirts in 50s years, most
likely, contain mistakes in dating use of a shirt with a while turn-down collar or with
V-neck collar. Why it is difficult, not so it is a lot of photos (at me) these years and
very little where there is a date when the photo is made. It concerns also a photo of a
Liverpool team.
