In
season 1972-73, the first time there was UMBRO logo, factories producing player shirt, it has been embroidered. In first shirt with UMBRO
logo in home match UEFA Cup Final 1st Leg versus Borussia Moenchengladbach (10.05.1973).
In this design shirt with embroidered UMBRO logo Liverpool also played next two seasons,
1973-74 & 1974-75. But may be in first this was on Liverpool shirt, on goalkeeper shirt in 1971, to watch picture in right Ray Clemence in
match FA Cup Final versus Arsenal (08.05.1971). What color the middle of a rhombus, in
this photo or others, it is difficult to define. It is precisely possible to write one,
that in matches UEFA Cup Final, May 1973 and Charity Shield (10.08.1974), was used home
shirt with embroidered black-white-blue UMBRO logo. |
Home player shirt (big white embroidered written UMBRO logo) Short
story about this shirt. Else some time we known what have this design home shirt and
photos Liverpool players dress in this shirt. After we know what this design home shirt
was used in season 1974-75.
Now have interesting information.
1 - In May 1974 (may be this photo made 20 April 1974), before FA Cup Final match
was made team photo when on more Liverpool field players dress home player shirt (big
white embroidered written UMBRO logo), photo in right. Was this presentation new home
shirt or was simple prezentation team before FA Cup Final match.
1 - In end January 2016, I to find on site eBay photos Liverpool weekly news
publication "The Reds to go in Wembley", for May 1974. On cover (left image) we
can to see in red circle Alec Lindsay and Steve Heighway. They in home player shirt (big
white embroidered written UMBRO logo). Else one, I now know think in 20 April 1974, in
home match at Anfield versus Everton, Liverpool field players played in home player shirt
(big white embroidered written UMBRO logo).
More about this design hone shirt with embroidered black-white-blue UMBRO logo
& embroidered black-white-red UMBRO logo, read here.
In left image, Phil Boersma in home shirt with embroidered
black-white-blue UMBRO logo, in right image, Ray Clemence in home goalkeeper shirt with
embroidered black-white-red UMBRO logo (now only this color photo I have with this Umbro
logo).

In season 1975-76 on Liverpool shirt was a Umbro logo
of new design, white printed UMBRO logo. In first white printed UMBRO logo used in season
1973-74 in one match, on shirt as and shorts. In FA Cup Final match versus Newcastle
United (04.05.1974).
24th January 2014, I have e-mail from my friend Michael Yip
(www.liverpoolkits.com), his written to me what have information what in end season
1974-75 in some matches (2-3), Liverpool played in home shirt with white printed UMBRO
logo. Information was right. On this moment I to find some photos with home match
Liverpool-Carlisle United (12.04.1975), when Ian Callaghan (photo left below) in home
shirt with white printed UMBRO logo. May be also in home Division One match versus
Leicester City (24.08.1974), left down image Phil Thompson.
In my head to go one idea, home shirt with white printed UMBRO logo was made for
season 1974-75, but after beat in FA Cup Final 1974 match, was made new shirt with big
white embroidered writer Umbro logo (only my version). |
Why I as think, if you visit on this my page, here, you can to see, what home shirt with white printed UMBRO logo have two
variants, Shirts different not only design size UMBRO logo (read below), but how I think,
was made of different fabrics.
If you have other information please contact us.
Now have home shirt with white printed UMBRO logo, two
variamts (below). ohly fofferent in UMBRO labels. For 1st UMBRO label, question not, this
home shirt (white printed UMBRO logo) was made for season 1975-76. 2nd - 3rd UMBRO label,
big question, shirt can made for season 1974-75 (this only my assume).
In Charity Shield (10.08.1974) match was used simple home shirt (photo in top left page,
Emlyn Hughes H 1.1), in shirt not was special embroidery to this match. The special
embroidery as was absent in matches Charity Shield 1971, 1974, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1983,
1984, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992 & 1994. Liverpool also played in 60's Charity
Shield matches, but and this matches used simple shirt, without special embroidery.
In Testimonial (29.04.1975) match was used simple home shirt (photos in top left page,
Tommy Smith H 1.6).
But the most important, that in one match the most part of players played in shirts
of one design (with a Umbro logo) and one or several players played in shirts another of
design (without a UMBRO logo).
This UMBRO logos which was used on Liverpool shirts in
seasons 1972-73 to 1975-76.
Which matches in season 1974-75 Liverpool used home shirts
without a UMBRO logo or home shirt with embroidered UMBRO logo or home shirt with white
printed UMBRO logo or home shirt with big white printed written UMBRO logo, I not know, it
is difficult to establish precisely as I have not many photos of this season, and video
not better quality. It concerns also home shorts.
But the most important, that in one match the most part of players played in shirts
of one design (with a UMBRO logo) and one or several players played in shirts another of
design (without a UMBRO logo).
This fragment of photo with away Division One match versus
Tottenham Hotspur (22.03.1975). Here Peter Cormack (center) in home shirt with embroidered
black-white-blue UMBRO logo and Peter Cormack (left) in home shirt with big white
embroidered written UMBRO logo, but Kevin Keegan in home shirt with big white embroidered
written UMBRO logo. I think what some Liverpool players change shirts after end first
half.
Else one photo, Liverpool players, Phil Boersma, Ray Kennedy
and Peter Cormack to go on field in second half at Stamford Bridge, each wearing slightly
different branded Umbro shirts, 31.08.1974
How to distinguish a shirt of a season 1968-69, from a shirt of a season 1975-76,
very difficultly. Certainly, were for this time of change in design of a collar and cuffs,
labels UMBRO, and certainly since a season 1972-73 it is various design of UMBRO logo.

Difficult write which design home goalkeeper shirts was used
in season 1975-76. I have not as more color and black-white photos or video, and from that
I have not always it is possible to define design on a home goalkeeper shirts in each
match. And if there is a photo or video not always it is possible to define. This page else will update.
In a season 1968-77 the design home goalkeeper shirt has changed. Liverpool used
home goalkeeper shirt nine seasons, 1968-69 to 1976-77 (time of use shirt is probably
inexact). Liverpool used home goalkeeper shirt how in more home, as and in more away
matches.. In season 1974-75, Liverpool used with home goalkeeper shirt different kits:

Now can write only one, in season 1975-76 Liverpool
goalkeepers used in matches not only goalkeeper shirts (big yellow UMBRO logo & yellow
Liverbird) new design. but and goalkeeper shirts last season. I cannot explain it.
This not 100% right information (if what will add), but with
season 1975-76 shirts was made of new fabric, nylon. Before Liverpool shirts was made of
cotton.

embroidered written UMBRO logo (picture to look in middle left side page). Course
difficult now written how more matches Liverpool played in this design shirt. How I know
what in this design home shirt Liverpool played one season 1974-75. But may be in first
this was on Liverpool shirt, on goalkeeper shirt in match
Charity Shield versus Leeds United (10.08.1974) , to watch picture in left, Ray Clemence
in this match.
If who read this page earlier, can noticeo, was written, what big white written
UMBRO logo was printed, now other information.
|
In left image, Phil Boersma in home shirt with embroidered
black-white-blue UMBRO logo, in right image, Ray Clemence in home goalkeeper shirt with
embroidered black-white-red UMBRO logo (now only this color photo I have with this Umbro
logo).
In Charity Shield (10.08.1974) match was used simple home goalkeeper shirt (photo
in top left page, Ray Clemence H G 1.1), in shirt not was special embroidery to this
match. The special embroidery as was absent in matches Charity Shield 1971, 1974, 1979,
1980, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992 & 1994. Liverpool also played in
60's Charity Shield matches, but and this matches used simple shirt, without special
embroidery.
Why Ray Clemence used in this season 1974-75 some varants design home goalkeeper
shirt, I not know, may be on fortune or there is a simple explanation, these years
goalkeepers of Liverpool FC had two-rub complete kits of the form for all season.
With season 1974-75 on Liverpool goalkeeper shirts have player number, design this
number not this how field players. Else one I think what not all matches was used
goalkeeper shirt with player number, my be only in matches Division One, but It is
difficult to check up as how I not have more video or photos with this season.
This fragment photo with away Division One match versus
Leicester City (19.03.1975). Ray Clemence tries to reflect blow, we see game number, 1st
variant on his back. This design standard for goalkeeper’s shirt in England 1970s, as I
now think. Else wish remembers what Liverpool goalkeepers
only with this season 1974-75, start used player number on back side goalkeeper shirt and
not all matches this season.
IElse intweewsting fragment photo with away Testimonial Billy
McNeill match versus Celtic Glasgow (19.03.1975). Ray Clemence tries to reflect blow, Inot
know which Clemence played goalkeeper shirt in this match. If tis was official match,
Clemence, need played in away goalkeeper shirt, as how Celtic, played in green-white
shirt, but this was friensdly match. I suppose possibility that the alternative goalkeeper
shirt on colour, it only the assumption has been used.
How to distinguish a goalkeeper shirt of a season 1968-69, from a goalkeeper shirt
of a season 1975-76, very difficultly. Certainly, were for this time of change in design
of a collar and cuffs, labels UMBRO, and certainly since a season 1972-73 it is various
design of UMBRO logo.
It concerns also shorts.

In a season 1974-75 the design away or third goalkeeper shirt has changed.
Liverpool used away or third goalkeeper shirt two seasons, 1974-75 & 1975-76 (time of

How you understand, away (third) goalkeeper shirt used only, when not can used home
goalkeeper shirt (green color). This possible if shirts the opponent teams, green or
white-green colors. In England I know what Plymouth Argyle has shirts green color, Yeovil
Town (green or white-green). In Scotland, this Celtic Glasgow (white-green) and Hibernian
Edinburgh (green).

Interesting, but only on goalkeeper shirt, used player
number with UMBRO logo. This design player number was used on Liverpool goalkeeper shirt
three seasons, 1974-75, 1975-76 & 1976-77.
Player number with manufacturer logo was used on all shirts, field players, as and
goalkeepers, only in season 1985-86. This was first season after deal Liverpool F.C. and
western Germany firm Adidas (left image). |

Why on my site you can read "Third goalkeeper
shirt", only for classification of the kits on my site.
Difficult say which color away goalkeeper shirt was
in season 1974-75, yellow or black.
How you understand, away (third) goalkeeper shirt used only, when not can used home

poland team played in white anirts and green shorts, but Liverpool goalkeeper in this
match played in yellow goalkeeper shirt.
In season 1975-76, Liverpool visit in Edinburgh, on UEFA Cup 1st round 1st leg
match versus Hibernian. Hibernian played in green shirt with white sleeve, as what need
was used away goalkeeper shirt (yellow). I made some screen shots with his match, but how
you can to see on left side page, not good qualities. Of video, not can understand, which
design UMBRO logo was used on away goalkeeper shirt. I assume, what used red printed UMBRO
logo.
Else one detail, goalkeeper shirt yellow color, used goalkeeper's national team.

On site Old football shirts (www.oldfootballshirts.com) have photos Livepool
goalkeeper shirt with big white embroidered written UMBRO logo & white embroidered
Liverbird (left down image). Color they goalkeeper shirt, is black. Only I not understand,
which matches can use goalkeeper shirt black color, as in those days, color referees kits
also was black. |
