1987-88
Home players shirt
Manufacturer: Adidas
Club sponsor: Crown Paints
Years worn: 1987-88
In this design home shirt Liverpool first played in ..
Replica shirt short sleeve price: J17,99 (the price is specified
in a year of made and sale of this shirt, 1987. I not sale what you
to see on this site, I not owner thos things)
In a season 1987-88 the design home shirt has changed. Liverpool used home shirt
one season, 1987-88. Liverpool used home shirt how in all home, as and in more away
matches. In season 1987-88, Liverpool used with home shirt different kits:
Home shorts and home socks
Home shorts and fourth socks
In season 1987-88, Liverpool also used second home kits (not know how right named
this design kits) in some Friendly matches. Second home kits used in sesons 1985-86 &
1986-87, how home kits.
H 1.0 - Home shirt with home shorts & home socks
H 1.1 - Home shirt with home shorts & fourth socks
H 1.2 - Home shirt (with special embroidery FA Cup
Final) with home shorts & home socks.
H 1.3 - Home shirt (with special embroidery
Testimonial Alan Hansen) with home shorts & home socks.
* - Unknown me now which kits used in this matches,
but I assume used home or second home shirt.
The new kit for the 1987-88 season showed only a few subtle
changes from the previous season. The Adidas stripes on the shirt now extended all the way
down the sleeve and the collar was changed to a curious wrap-over design seen for the
first time on Liverpool shirts, Although plain red there is a very faint wide stripe that
runs through the shirt in almost the same colour, the stripe being a slightly more shiny
material, Within the stripes of the shirt the Liver bird and the Adidas badge are repeated
and can only be seen on close inspection.
The major change on this shirt being the badge design that was also changed, with
the Liver bird now placed in a new shield design with the words Liverpool Football Club
written below, This is the same badge that would be used for a number of years after this
shirt, The badges stayed an embossed material with the players shirts being stitched.
By now Crown Paints had decided on the best way to display their logo on the front
of the shirt and the logo was not seen again on only the one line as had been the case on
previous shirts.
In season 1987-88, Liverpool used home shirt with special embroidery, this was in
matches FA Cup Final (14.05.1988) & Testimonial Alan Hansen (16.05.1988).

Interesting fact. 27 February 1988, Liverpool visit to Portsmouth, on away Division One
match versus the same team Portsmouth. Before the beginning of a match it was found out,
that home team (Portsmouth) played in red socks, how I understand this was surprise for
Liverpool kits man. The problem has been solved simply, in local shop have been bought
socks of black color. |
In 1988 the agreement with UK firm Crown Paints has ended six-year and Liverpool
has signed three-year the agreement with Italy firm Candy. The agreement with Candy will
end in a season 1991-92.

1987-88 Away players
shirt
Manufacturer: Adidas
Club sponsor: Crown Paints
Years worn: 1987-88
In this design away shirt (white Crown Paints logo) Liverpool first played in away
Friendly match versus Atletico (Madrid, Spain), 1-0, 23.08.1987, at Vicente Calderon
(Madrid, Spain).
In this design away shirt (red Crown Paints logo) Liverpool first played in away
Division One match versus Manchester United, 1-1, 15.11.1987, at Old Trafford.
Replica shirt short sleeve price: J17,99 (the price is specified
in a year of made and sale of this shirt, 1987. I not sale what you
to see on this site, I not owner thos things)
In a season 1987-88 the design away shirt has changed. Liverpool used away shirt
one season, 1987-88.
A 1.0 - Away shirt (white Crown Paints logo) with away
shorts & away socks.
A 1.0 - Away shirt (red Crown Paints logo) with away
shorts & away socks.
Apart from the new away kit for the 1987-88 season changing
colour from yellow to silver grey it really only showed only a few subtle changes from the
previous season. The Adidas stripes on the shirt now extended all the way down the sleeve
and the collar was changed to a curious wrap-over design seen for the first time on
Liverpool shirts, Although the away shirt is a plain grey colour there is a very faint
stripe that runs through the shirt in almost the same colour, Within the stripes of the
shirt the Liver bird and the Adidas badge are repeated and can only be seen on close
inspection.
The major change on this shirt being the badge design that was also changed, with
the Liver bird now placed in a new shield design with the words Liverpool Football Club
written below, This is the same badge that would be used for a number of years after this
shirt, The badges stayed an embossed material with the players shirts badges being
stitched, This embossed material was extremely prone to fading and colour change after
washing the shirt, With this shirt and other liverpool shirt its very common to see a
rather unsightly pink stain to the embossed badges.
Although by now we thought that Crown Paints had finally decided on the best way to
display their logo on the front of the shirt as the logo was not seen again on only the
one line as had been the case on previous shirts, But Crown Paints obviously decided that
the "White" coloured logo could still be difficult to see on TV and whilst the
matches are being played, (although this seems obvious) So after an initial period the
shirt changed once more, This time the sponsors logo was changed to a more visible red
colour, This shirt can be seen on this website also.
This was last year deal with firm Crown Paints (1982-88), with next season
Liverpool will played in shirt with Candy logo (1988-92).

1987-88 Third players
shirt
Manufacturer: Adidas
Club sponsor: Crown Paints
Years worn: 1985-88
In this design third shirt Liverpool first played (how away shirt) in ...
Replica shirt short sleeve price: J17,99 (the price is specified
in a year of made and sale of this shirt, 1986-87. I not sale what
you to see on this site, I not owner thos things)
In a season 1985-86 the design third shirt has changed. Liverpool used third shirt
three seasons, 1985-86, 1986-87 & 1987-88. Only in seasons 1985-86 & 1986-87
Liverpool used this design shirt, how away shirt. In season 1987-88, Liverpool used with
third shirt different kits:
Third shorts and third socks
Home shorts and home socks
T 1.0 - Third shirt with third shorts & third
socks.
T 1.1 - Third shirt with home shorts & home socks.
In 1985 Liverpool changed their kit manufacturer after a long
association with Umbro. The new kit supplier was Adidas and the new kit was actually in
use at the end of the 1984-85 season for the fateful Heysel European Cup Final. The first
Adidas Liverpool kit was plain red with the three Adidas stripes in white on the shoulders
and the sides of the shorts. The stripe effect also carried on through the V-neck of the
shirt along with the end of the sleeves, Within the stripes of the shirt the Liver bird
and the Adidas badge are repeated and can only be seen on close inspection, The club
sponsors remained Crown Paints.
|
|
in season 1986-87, Liverpool again starter in shirt Crown Paints on two
lines. Written on two lines so it became larger (and easier to see on a TV screen), The
shirt badges upon the replica shirts are an embossed material where as they would have
been fully stitched upon the players issue shirts, a trend that has been seen through the
majority of Liverpool shirt since.
Left image: in away FA Cup match versus Aston Villa
(31.01.1988), Liverpool used third shirts with short sleeve and with sawed on shirt player
numbers. Only Steve Nicol<,played in this match in third shirt with printed number №
4.
The reason on which he played to this shirt, most
likely is banal.
How to distinguish a away shirt of a seasons 1985-86 & 1986-87, from a third
shirt of a season 1987-88, very difficultly, only for design player number. |
In 1988 the agreement with UK firm Crown Paints has ended six-year and Liverpool
has signed three-year the agreement with Italy firm Candy. The agreement with Candy will
end in a season 1991-92.

Away shorts and away socks
Pants
Liverpool goalkeepers in season 1987-88 used home goalkeeper
shirt with small Crown Paints logo and big Crown Paints logo. Why so, I do not know, can
be because of a rule of use of a trade mark of sponsor club on a shirt, at display on TV.

The only difference for this home shirt introduced in 1988 was the sponsors badge,
Crown Paints were replaced as sponsors by the electrical manufacurers Candy after the
1987-88 season. They chose to have their logo in red on the away shirts and white on the
home shirt as can be seen in this picture with it is left. |
Interesting fact. 5 March 1988,
Liverpool visit to London on away Division One match versus Queens Park Rangers. In this
match Bruce Grobbelaar, played not only in the knee pads, but if you look at the photo
(top), he pulled the panties and shows that he has protection for the thighs. Bruce was
always an eccentric player and loved to play in public. Suffice it to recall a photo of
him where he is after winning the League Cup Final (13.03.1982) or after other win
matches, he passed on the hands by a field or a photo of him with the dressing.
In season 1987-89, Liverpool used home goalkeeper shirt with special embroidery,
this was in matches FA Cup Final (14.05.1988) & Testimonial Alan Hansen (16.05.1988).

In first half Alan Hansen (photo 1) and Steve Nicol played in shirt how and all
Liverpool players. Shorts on Alan Hansen in second half also with season 1987-88.
I think Alan Hansen and Steve Nicol during the half-time
period, they were given their own shirts, but they did not have any spare shirts with
special embroidery. This is just my guess.

shirt", only for classification of the kits on my site.
I now not know, was used third goalkeeper shirt in season 1986-87.
In 1985 Liverpool changed their kit manufacturer after a long association with
Umbro. The new kit supplier was Adidas and the new kit was actually in use at the end of
the 1984-85 season for the fateful Heysel European Cup Final. The first Adidas Liverpool
kit was plain red with the three Adidas stripes in white on the shoulders and the sides of
the shorts. The stripe effect also carried on through the V-neck of the shirt along with
the end of the sleeves, Within the stripes of the shirt the Liver bird and the Adidas
badge are repeated and can only be seen on close inspection, The club sponsors remained
Crown Paints.
Else some time we know small about this goalkeeper shirt.
This fragment together photo teams Liverpool FC and Everton FC which made in April 1986,

April 1987, at Carrow Road.

In season 1985-86, Liverpool starter in shirt Crown Paints on
two lines, but after New Year, the design Crown Paints logo was change, written on one
line. Why was change sponsor logo, I not know (may be with problems with TV).
In season 1986-87, Liverpool again starter in shirt Crown Paints on two lines.
Written on two lines so it became larger (and easier to see on a TV screen), The shirt
badges upon the replica shirts are an embossed material where as they would have been
fully stitched upon the players issue shirts, a trend that has been seen through the
majority of Liverpool shirt since.
