Home players shirt
Manufacturer: Umbro
Years worn: 1962-68
In this design home shirt Liverpool may be first played (how second home shirt) in
...
In a autumn season 1962-63 the design home shirt has changed. Liverpool used home
shirt six seasons, 1962-63 to 1967-68. In seasons 1962-63, this shirt was used how second
home shirt. Liverpool used home shirt how in all home, as and in more away matches.
Liverpool used home wirt how short, as and long sleeve. In season 1964-65, Liverpool used
with home shirt different kits:
Home shorts and home socks
Second home shorts and home socks
Second home shorts and second home socks
H 1.0 - Home shirt with home shorts & home socks.
H 1.1 - Home shirt with second home shorts & home

H 1.2 - Home shirt with second home shorts & home

H 1.3 - Home shirt (special embroidery WEMBLEY 1965)
with second home shorts & home second socks.
H 1.4 - Home shirt (without special embroidery Charity
Shield) with home shorts & home socks.
* - In this matches was used home shirts with long
sleeve .
* * - Unknown me now which home shirts (short or long
slewwevwe) used in this matches.
In season 1964-65, Liverpool used home shirt with special embroidery, this was in
match FA Cup Final (01.05.1965).
Full season 1964-65 Liverpool played in red shirt with white shorts and
red-white socks. Only in European Cup matches (except for qualifier rounds 17.08.1964
& 14.09.1964) Liverpool used home shirt with red short and red socks. In first this
was in away European Cup match versus Anderlecht (Belgium, 16.12.1964). Interesting what
in home match European Cup match versus Anderlecht (Belgium, 25.11.1964), used only red
shorts with white-red socks.
Also in six FA Cup matches and one Division One match, Liverpool used home kits -
all red.
This one of good photo of away match Anderlech-Liverpool,when
Liverpool first in his history played in full red kits.
How born Liverpool all red kit
Liverpool wear all red for the first time. According to Ian St John Shankly
"thought the colour scheme would carry psychological impact — red for danger, red
for power. He came into the dressing room one day and threw a pair of red shorts to Ronnie
Yeats. 'Get into those shorts and let’s see how you look,' he said. 'Christ, Ronnie, you
look awesome, terrifying. You look 7ft tall.' 'Why not go the whole hog, boss?' I
suggested. 'Why not wear red socks? Let’s go out all in red.' Shankly approved and an
iconic kit was born."
Can name this style Liverpool
kits,all red, Cup style.
If interesting, read article "Just when exactly
did Liverpool FC first wear their all-red strip?" here.
Wish remember all, what after away lose Stoke City, 21
November 1964, Liverpool was on 16 place in table Division One,we end season 1964-65 on 7
place..
In Charity Shield (15.08.1965) match was used simple home shirt (photo in top left
side page, Roger Hunt H 1.4), in shirt not was special embroidery to this match. The
special embroidery as was absent in matches Charity Shield 1971, 1974, 1979, 1980, 1982,
1983, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1992 & 1994. Liverpool also played in 60's (1964,
1965, 1966) Charity Shield matches, but and this matches used simple shirt, without
special embroidery.

Interesting fact. In left Roger Hunt home
shirt № 8, this shirt was sold on auction Sotheby (11.09.2003) for J744. If to see
better, can to see what have one riddle, why on embroidered club emblem (Liverbird
embroidered on an oval) without abbreviation (L.F.C.). What this mistake on shirt or shirt
was used in Friendly match when played players different clubs (Everton).
For Charity Shield mattches versus Southampton (14.08.1976(
and versus Manchester United (13.08.1977), was made shirt with a special one-off match
embroidery, but Liverbird embroidered without abbreviation (L.F.C.). |
Strange, but in this match Leicester City-Liverpool
(09.09.1964) was used away kit. It is not clear why was selected as an away kit. In a
report from the match, not written about it. Liverpool's Hunt (right) is beaten to ball by
Frank McLintock.

shirt) with shirt made in 1962 to 1965 year. 2nd image, Umbro label with shirt made in
1965 to 1968 year.
How to distinguish a shirt of a season 1962-63, from a shirt of a season 1967-68,
very difficultly. Most likely, it is distinctions in design of a label of firm of
manufacturer Umbro under a collar. But now not as more shirts used in seasons 1962-68 in
collections.

50 years on: When Liverpool became the Reds against
Anderlecht
24 Nov 2014
Prior to the visit of Anderlecht in the European Cup on
November 25, 1964, Liverpool had worn red shirts with white shorts and white socks.
But for the visit of the Belgian champions Bill Shankly introduced red shorts for
the first time.
The match has passed into folklore as the first time Liverpool wore an all-red
strip for the first time, but as the Echo’s action pictures from the match clearly
showed the following night, white socks with red trim still persisted that night and for a
few weeks longer.
But the introduction of red shorts certainly made an impact, even if not everybody
was a fan.
Respected veteran sports writer Leslie Edwards commented in his match report the
following day: “Liverpool, with vivid red shorts which even goalkeeper Tommy Lawrence
wore, looked strange.”
Liverpool won the match 3-0 with goals from Ian St John, Roger Hunt and Ron Yeats.
While the socks worn by Gerry Byrne and Roger Hunt that night are clearly white
with red trim, Ian St John’s socks are almost half white, half red, as if he rolled down
the tops of his socks to show as much red as possible.

This design goalkeeper home shirt, Liverpool goalkeepers use in match European Cup.
For this match was used second home shorts.
H G 1.1 - Home goalkeeper shirt with second home
shorts & home socks.
It was the first step to the now common form of the club, was used by the red
shorts, instead of the usual for that time, white panties. Only in away answer match
vwersus Anderlecht, 16 Desember 1964, can say was born Liverpool kits, all red.

H 1.2 - Home goalkeeper shirt with second home shorts
& home second socks.
If interesting, read article "Just when exactly
did Liverpool FC first wear their all-red strip?" here.
