In this design home shirt (big white embroidered written UMBRO logo) Liverpool
first played in home Division One match versus Everton, 0-0, 20.04.1974, at Anfield.
In a season 1968-99 the design home shirt has changed. Liverpool used home shirt
eight seasons, 1968-69 to 1975-76 (time of use shirt is probably inexact). Liverpool used
home shirt how in all home, as and in more away matches. In season 1973-74, Liverpool used
with home shirt different kits:
Home shorts and home socks
Home shorts and away socks
Second away shorts and home socks
H 1.0 - Home shirt (without UMBRO logo) with home

In
season 1972-73, the first time there was UMBRO logo, factories producing player shirt, it has been embroidered. In first shirt with UMBRO
logo in home match UEFA Cup Final 1st Leg versus Borussia Moenchengladbach (10.05.1973).
In this design shirt with embroidered UMBRO logo Liverpool also played next two seasons,
1973-74 & 1974-75. But may be in first this was on Liverpool shirt, on goalkeeper shirt in 1971, to watch picture in right Ray Clemence in
match FA Cup Final versus Arsenal (08.05.1971). What color the middle of a rhombus, in
this photo or others, it is difficult to define. It is precisely possible to write one,
that in matches UEFA Cup Final, May 1973 and Charity Shield (10.08.1974), was used home
shirt with embroidered black-white-blue UMBRO logo. |
In left image, Phil Boersma in home with embroidered
black-white-blue UMBRO logo, in right image, Ray Clemence in home goalkeeper shirt with
embroidered black-white-red UMBRO logo (now only this color photo I have with this UMBRO
logo).
More about this design hone shirt with embroidered black-white-blue UMBRO logo
& embroidered black-white-red UMBRO logo, read here.
Home player shirt (big white embroidered written UMBRO logo) Short
story about this shirt. Else some time we known what have this design home shirt and
photos Liverpool players dress in this shirt. After we know what this design home shirt
was used in season 1974-75.
Now have interesting information.
1 - In May 1974 (may be this photo made 20 April 1974), before FA Cup Final match
was made team photo when on more Liverpool field players dress home player shirt (big
white embroidered written UMBRO logo), photo in right. Was this presentation new home
shirt or was simple prezentation team before FA Cup Final match.
1 - In end January 2016, I to find on site eBay photos Liverpool weekly news
publication "The Reds to go in Wembley", for May 1974. On cover (left image) we
can to see in red circle Alec Lindsay and Steve Heighway. They in home player shirt (big
white embroidered written UMBRO logo). Else one, I now know think in 20 April 1974, in
home match at Anfield versus Everton, Liverpool field players played in home player shirt
(big white embroidered written UMBRO logo).
More about this design hone shirt with big white embroidered written UMBRO logo,
read here.
In season 1973-74, Liverpool used home shirt with special embroidery, this was for
match FA Cup Final (04.05.1974).
In Testimonial (14.08.1978, 11.10.1978 & 27.03.1979) matches was used simple
home shirt (photos in top left page, H 1.2 to H 1.4).
Interesting
fact. In season 1973-74, Liverpool twice played at Molineux
versus Wolverhampton Wanderers. First, League Cup match (19.12.1973), Liverpool used away
kits (left image Tommy Smith and John Richards). Second, Division One match (23.03.1974),
Liverpool used home kits (right image Peter Cormack and Peter Withe). Why as, I not know.
Which matches in season 1973-74 Liverpool used home shirts
without a UMBRO logo or home shirt with embroidered UMBRO logo or home shirt with white
printed UMBRO logo, I not know, it is difficult to establish precisely as I have not many
photos of this season, and video not better quality. It concerns also home shorts. And if in one matchLiverpool players used different home shirt (withor
without embroidered UMBRO logo), this difficult to classify.
This UMBRO labels under a collar which was on Liviverpool
shirta in seasons with 1968-69 to 1975-76. How I think, may be I mistake. 1st image, in
1968-70. 2nd image, in 1970-71. 3rd image, in unknown. 4th image, in 1972-74. 5th image,
in 1974-76.
This UMBRO logos which was used on Liverpool shirts in
seasons 1972-73 to 1975-76.

Company Gola - first
title sponsor Liverpool FC?
This interesting question. All know what first title sponsor for Liverpool FC was
Japan Company Hitachi, which sing deal with club in spring 1979. All remember what first
HITACHI logo was on Liverpool shirt in season 1979-80. More read here |
How to distinguish a shirt of a season 1968-69, from a shirt of a season 1975-76,
very difficultly. Certainly, were for this time of change in design of a collar and cuffs,
labels UMBRO, and certainly since a season 1972-73 it is various design of UMBRO logo and
fabric.

This design home shirt, Liverpool field players use in match FA Cup Final. For this
match was used special embroudery F.A. CUP FINAL 1974.
H 1.5 - Home shirt (printed white UMBRO logo &
special embroidery F.A. CUP FINAL 1974) with home shorts & home socks.
The shirt for this match unusual, not only that on it is a special embroidery FA
Cup Final, and a white printed UMBRO logo. The shirt of the player is made of a special
fabric, the fabric as now can be named a "breathing", fine grid (below). Usually
shirts were produced from a dense fabric. In the further, for matches of top level (FA Cup
Final, Charity Shield, European Cup Final 1974-81), a shirt were produced only from such
"breathing" fabric (cotton). Usually shorts Liverpool F C were produced from a
dense fabric (from 100 % of nylon).
Also for the FA Cup Final, on Liverpool players was dress shorts with white printed
UMBRO logo.
A special fabric, the fabric as now can be named a
"breathing", fine grid.
On player FA Cup Final 1974 shirt was white printed
UMBRO logo (smaller). I n down white printed UMBRO logo with player shirt season 1975-76.
How you can to see, white printed UMBRO logos different size.
