1956-57
Home players shirt
Manufacturer: Umbro
Years worn: 1955-62
In this design home shirt (V-neck collar & Liverbird) Liverpool may be first
played in away Division Second match versus Leeds United, 2-0, 19.11.1955, at Elland Road.
In a season 1955-56 the design home shirt has changed. Liverpool used second home
shirt eight seasons, 1955-56 to 1962-63 (time of use shirt is probably inexact). Liverpool
used home shirt how in more home, as and in more away matches. In season 1956-57 also used
second home shirt (white turn-down collar).
H 1.0 - Home shirt with home shorts & home socks.
H or S H - Unknown me now which design home kits used
in this matches, but I assume used home shirt.
With home shirt, Liverpool used home shorts (white color) and home socks (red-white
color), but possible in one of away matches used away shorts (black color). Now I not
know, was used white color socks in season 1956-57.
Shirt this style (V-neck collar and short sleeves) else named now "Continental
shirts". UMBRO factory made this style (V-neck collar and short sleeves) of different
fabric, "lightweight cotton interlock fabric" and " heavyweight cotton
interlock fabric".

"Historicalkits.co.uk" Dave Moor, has assumed, that shirts with a short sleeve,
were used in good weather, and with a long sleeve, in cold. The logic in it is, but may be
so business in other.
My pages about history of Liverpool shirts in 50th years,
most likely, contain mistakes in dating use of a shirt with a while turn-down collar or
with V-neck collar. Why it is difficult, not so it is a lot of photos (at me) these years
and very little where there is a date when the photo is made. It concerns also a photo of
a Liverpool team.
Interesting fact. Have one
paradoks, answer to which at me is not present. In last home match af Anfield, versus West
Ham United (27.04.1957), Liverpool played in home shirt with white turn-down collar &
Liverbird and long sleeves. What 27 April was cold weather or there were other reasons.
Players W.H.U. in this match played in shirt with short sleeve and with V-neck collar
(photo in left Alan Arnell).
Home shirt with turn-down collar, which also used Liverpool
FC in cold weather I name how "Second home shirt". Why this shirt from my site
have name "Second home shirt", only for classification of the kits. |
For all eight seasons, 1955-56 to 1962-63 this shirt (V-neck
collar with Liverbird) course can made of different fabrics, on thickness and color. Also
can to see what with season 1960-61 (right image) oval with embroidered Liverbird &
L.F.C. was it is sewn some down what on Liverpool shirt (V-neck collar with Liverbird
& L.F.C.) with seasons 1955-56 to 1959-60 (left image).
With season 1955-56, manufacturer Umbro company start made new design football
shirt with V-neck collar. Style football shirt with V-neck collar, made Umbro company,
named "Continental" and made of new fabric, fabric name "Tangery". In
Umbro catalogue for season 1957-58, write, what colors on home shirt which used Liverpool,
name "Scarlet-White". Else interesting information, Liverpool can used home
shirt with V-neck collar, but different thickness of a fabric, lightweight or heavyweight
cotton interlock fabric.
As how my site about Liverpool FC kits, I written different detail kits. Here I
write about player numbers which was stiched on back side kits. This photo in home match
Division Second versus Fulham (20.10.1956), when we can to see back side Liverpool
players Johnny Wheeler (8) and Alan A'Court (11). On first look can assume what player
numbers stiched for different, I about size betwin collar
Interesting fact. This fragment
of photo traningLiverpool players at Melwood. On photo Geoff Twentyman and
Tommy Younger. Pay attention that on Tommy Younger's sweater is sewed or most
likely the print abbreviation LFC is made by a paint.

1956-57 Away goalkeepers
shirt
Manufacturer: Umbro
Years worn: 1954-63 (time of use shirt is probably inexact)
In this away goalkeeper shirt Liverpool in first played in ...
In a season 1954-55 the design away goalkeeper shirt has changed. Liverpool used
away goalkeeper shirt eleventh seasons, 1954-55 to 1962-63 (time of use shirt is probably
inexact). Liverpool used away goalkeeper shirt how in more home, as and in more away
matches. In season 1956-57, Liverpool used with away goalkeeper shirt different kits:
Home shorts and home socks
Away shorts and home socks
H G 1.0 - Away goalkeeper shirt with home shorts &
home socks.
H G 1.1 - Away goalkeeper shirt with away shorts &
away socks.
H G or A G - Unknown me now which home or away
goalkeeper kits used in this matches.
My pages about history of Liverpool shirts in 50s years, most
likely, contain mistakes in dating use of a goalkeeper shirt. Why it is difficult, not so
it is a lot of photos (at me) these years and very little where there is a date when the
photo is made. It concerns also a photo of a Liverpool team.
In left side page you can to see sifferent variants
goalkeeper shirts which can passible used goalkeepers Liverpool F.C. in season 1956-57.
Course right write not goalkeeper sweater (2nd and 3rd variant).
Manufacturer goalkeeper shirt company "Umbro" made
for footballs clubs goalkeeper sweater different colors: Royal (blue), Scarlet (red),
Emerald (green) and Amber (yellow) - for national team goalkeepers. How you to see,
goalkeepers shirt different for on thickness of a fabric.
Rampart: knitted wool and cotton mixture.
Sentry: all wool, medium weight.
International: A super all-wool sweater.
Umb. 315: Super quality, close knitted, absorbent cotton yarn.
Main when Liverpool goalkeepers can used away goalkeeper
shirt, in matches versus Plymouth Argyle (seasons 1954-55, 1955-56, 1959-60, 1960-61,
1961-62) and Hibernian (10.09.195613.11.1957). I wish to remind, that Plymouth Argyle and
Hibernian played in green shirts and Liverpool goalkeepers not can used goalkeeper shirts
green color.
I also not can written else about one, in all matches season
1956-57, was used goalkeepers shirt with club emblem (Liverbird and L.F.C.) or not.
Ihink can was on a miscellaneous.
Two cards Liverpool goalkeepers Cyril Sidlow (1946-1952), Doug Rudham (1954-1960)
Before season 1974-75, on Liverpool goalkeeper shirt without player number.
This pre-season team photo 1958-59 or 1959-60, on photo three
Liverpool goalkeepers in three different variants goalkeeper shirt. Tommy Lawrence (3rd
variant), Tommy Younger (1st variant), Doug Rudham (2nd variant). What about color
Liverpool goalkeeper shirt. Tommy Younger (light green). Tommy Lawrence (may be green, red
or claret).Doug Rudham (green).
|
|
As what, home goalkeeper shirt -
green color, away goalkeeper shirt - red or claret color,
Course of Lverpool goalkeepers used home goalkeeper shirt, as
how green color was basic for goalkeeper shirt in Breat Britain. |
|
|
This goalkeeper shirt - blue
color. Think, Liverpool goalkeepers not used this color goalkeeper shirts. |
In middle black-white photo, on photo Tommy Younger on
photo-session at Amfield (unknown day and year made). Left and right, images get of cards
which was made in 1959. Goalkeeper shirt. on cards was colored in different colors, which
original color shirt, I not know. Which color goalkeeper shirt was in middle photo I not
know.
