Difference between a player shirt and a replica
shirt, and as other features of a player shirt

All player shirts must have the Umbro logo and Liverbird
fully embroidered into the shirt. However, there is a mix of official replicas either with
felt-velveteen Umbro logo and Liverbird, or embroidered ones.
If we view from the inner side, the effect of embroidery is
more conspicous.
As usual, all UMBRO era genuine player shirts come with size
tag printed with WORDS (O S MENS) instead of NUMERICS.
Player's number on backside is a piece of machine-stitched
cloth.

As you can see by the images below, the following two shirts
I have been fortunate enough to collect both are 1982-84 Liverpool away shirts, Both are
absolutely Mint Condition and still within the original Umbro bag's, Only ever opened once
for this photo, At first look they look identical as you would expect, However on closer
inspection you can see that the shirt on the left in the first image has fully
stitched/embroidered umbro badge and Liver-bird club badges, whilst the shirt in the
second image on the right has transfer style badges for both the umbro and liver-bird
crest.
(This can be seen easier in the images at the bottom of the page)
You will sometimes see this 1982 away shirt for sale with very faded badges, they
tended to turn a very pink colour after a few washes, therefore because of this problem
Umbro then decided that for the second season of 1983-84 they would fully embroider the
badges so this fading could no longer happen to the shirts.
You may also note that the shirt labels inside the collar are also slightly
different as Umbro also had changed its corporate design slightly.
