The Ever changing face of the 'Crown Paints' sponsors
logo in the 1985-86 season
As you may have previously read elsewhere within the website Liverpool changed the
way in which the 'Crown Paints' logo was displayed during the 1985-86 season, To explain
this please look at the following images taken from the 'Supreme Double' Liverpool book
first published in the summer of 1986.
This first image shows Jim Beglin in match against Newcastle United on 24th August
1985, Note the double line sponsors logo.
This second image shows John Wark scoring Liverpool's goal against Manchester
United, This game was played on 9th February 1986, The game ended 1-1. Although the
sponsors logo is a little obscured on the Liverpool shirt you can just see to the right of
the ball that Liverpool had changed to the single Line Crown Paints sponsors logo, This
wasn't the first time Crown Paints had dabbled with their logo on a single line, It was
first seen like this in the shirts of the 1982-83 season.
In the third image shown you can see the Liverpool player Kenny Dalglish against
York City, This game was played on the 18th February 1986, Liverpool won this game 3-1 (if
data photo right), As you can see Liverpool have reverted to the double line sponsored
shirt, This proves that they did change from one to another during the season.
And in the 4th image shown again you can see Liverpool have once again swapped
around, On May 3rd the reds swapped back again to the single line sponsored shirt for the
game and win which clinched the title for Liverpool that season against Chelsea which
Liverpool won 1-0 thanks to an early goal from Kenny Dalglish as can be seen below.
Most people will tell you that Liverpool used one type and then swapped to the
other, but these photos and dates go to prove that the shirts were swapped over from one
to another during the same season, This was most probably to do with which games were on
TV and which ones were not.
